The trend! Apple is going to use USB-C too
As we all know, Apple has always used the Lightning interface, but with the development of charging technology, Apple is also slowly replacing this technology. At present, many devices have transitioned to the Type-C interface, such as the MacBook currently on sale. series, iPad series, and Studio Display, etc.
According to previous reports, it is expected that by 2024, all portable electronic device charging ports in the EU will be unified as Type-C ports, while mainstream models of domestic mobile phone manufacturers have all switched to Type-C ports, and fast charging standard will be unified in the country later.
So why did Apple refuse to give up this interface and use the Type-C interface instead?
First of all, we need to know that the absolute advantages of Type-C are obvious. For example, it supports fast charging power up to 100W, and there are many compatible protocols, and the transmission rate can reach up to 40GB/s. Apple's Lightning technology is old, with high latency, and the charging speed is even more complacency, and the compatibility is relatively poor, because only Apple's devices will have this interface, and you need to buy a docking station to achieve more functions.
Apple is also a smart guy, so it has added a Thunderbolt interface compatible with Type-C to productivity-oriented devices, such as MacBook, iPad Pro, etc., but entertainment-oriented devices such as the iPhone still use the Lightning interface.
In terms of cost, the production cost of Lightning may be higher than that of Type-C, but Apple still chooses to use it. Why is Apple, which has always advertised environmental protection, unwilling to compromise on the issue of the interface and use Type-C to achieve a unified interface. You must know that Apple's official data line is as high as 145 yuan, and for the so-called environmental protection, the included charger has been canceled, and the price of the charger is also as high as 149 yuan, which has brought high profits to Apple. The point is that Apple's data cables are notoriously easy to break. Once used improperly, they will be damaged, so users can only choose to buy the original data cable on the official website or use a third-party Lightning data cable.
If third-party manufacturers want to manufacture Lightning data cables and obtain official certification, they need to be authorized by MFI and implanted with Apple’s special chips.
According to this service, Apple can earn more than one billion US dollars in additional revenue every year. Compared with environmental protection, these profits are real benefits. As my country and the European Union have successively decided to unify the interfaces of electronic devices, it is only a matter of time for all Apple devices to transition to Type-C.
According to analysts, the iPhone 14 will continue to use the Lightning port, but shortly after sharing this information, a Bloomberg reporter reported that Apple is indeed testing an iPhone with a USB-C port, expected to be the iPhone 15 in 2024 .
