IT Home News on October 30, according to 9to5 Mac, when Apple launched the new MacBook Pro 2021, the company also launched a new 140W USB-C charger, which is included in the box of the MacBook Pro 16-inch model. It also supports separate sale. Although it looks like an ordinary charger, Apple's 140W charger is the company's first charger made with gallium nitride (GaN) technology. Now, the disassembly shows all the details of the new 16-inch MacBook Pro charger.
Charger LAB shared a video showing the entire disassembly process of Apple's 140W USB-C charger. The interesting thing about this charger is its new technology, because it uses the USB-C PD 3.1 standard and can provide up to 240W of power. In addition, this is Apple's first power adapter to use gallium nitride.
Gallium nitride, or GaN, is a material used in semiconductors and generates less heat. Therefore, the component distance can be smaller, and the charger can be more compact without affecting its safety. IT Home is informed that in order to reach the maximum power of 140W when charging the MacBook Pro, a new USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable is needed because there is no ordinary USB-C cable compatible with the new standard on the market.
Next is disassembly. It is not easy to disassemble Apple's charger. They had to cut the hard plastic shell to access the internal components of the power adapter, which would naturally cause permanent damage to it.
Once the charger is disassembled, we can see that there is a fairly solid structure inside. The plastic shell is really thick, and there is a black glue to keep the main module fixed.
